Application Process & Time Line
for
Students who are Typically Developing
2012-2013 Application Now Available!
Parents complete an application and return it to the Preschool Director (online or via mail). Procedural timelines depend on meeting specific application dates. Entrance into the program is chosen via lottery, with preference given to Newton residence and families with siblings who currently attend or have attended NECP. All students must participate in a Developmental Observation:
Students without special needs serve as peer models for students with special needs. The Developmental Observation ensures that students entered in the lottery exhibit developmentally appropriate speech and language skills, social skills, and play skills. NECP staff will conduct the Developmental Observation in the context of play-based and other typical preschool activities. Parents are encouraged to separate from their children into the hallway outside the classroom where the observation will take place. Current NECP families and staff will be available to chat and answer questions.
